American Idol’s Katy Perry could be replaced by one of her best friends in pop, says co-judge

Katy Perry may have left a large American Idol hole in our hearts after her exit. But that could all be filled soon, as there are three top pop singers in talks to potentially fill her place, says her co-star.

Luke Bryan has let slip about who could fill Katy Perry‘s empty seat. Of course, it’ll likely be a current singer topping the charts to replace her on American Idol. Hint: Think Hannah Montana…

Katy Perry could be replaced by BFF

Katy Perry might be replaced by Miley Cyrus, a pop singer she shares a close friendship with. Co-judge, Luke Bryan, claims the production bosses are in talks with the artist, as per Billboard.

In fact, Perry is the singer’s oldest friend in the music industry. The two pop stars have been good friends since 2008, and according to Cyrus, “that’s like a really long time” in Los Angeles, she told WKTU.

Perry’s voice is featured as backing vocals on two songs from Cyrus’ second album, Breakout. The two once kissed at a concert and often top the charts at the same time, such as for Malibu and Bon Appétit.

Two pop stars ‘are in talks’, say Luke

“I’ve said several names. I think Pink has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks,” Luke told Billboard on Monday, July 1.

The process of selecting a new judge “has been interesting,” Bryan continued, “It’s been something Disney has been really tight-lipped about with me and Lionel [Richie] and Ryan [Seacrest].”

He added, “We haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back. I think Disney is trying to figure out what they want. We’re sitting back and waiting til they decide.”

Katy Perry is not close with Pink

Katy and Pink feuded when the latter sided with Taylor Swift over their fall-out in 2017. Three of Swift’s back-up dancers had ended up quitting her Red Tour in 2014 to join Perry’s on-stage performers.

Meghan Trainor, however, one of Perry’s other potential replacements, begged to take her spot. She said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that American Idol is her “dream job”.

“I’ve done every interview in the world and said that that is my dream job and I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world,” she told Cohen, noting she “begged” for the role.
