Fremantle stand-in skipper Andrew Brayshaw has declared their upset one-point over Sydney as one of the best of his career but says it doesn’t give them credits heading into their clash against Richmond.
The Dockers have catapulted themselves not only into the top three but into premiership contention after ending the Swans’ 10-game winning streak in a thriller at the SCG on Saturday.
When asked where the victory sat among the other 64 in his career, Brayshaw, 24, said “it was up there, definitely”.
“I mean, it was definitely the best of this year. It was a lot of fun, I think you can tell by some of the faces of our players that we were really enjoying ourselves and we were able to hold on,” Brayshaw said.
Despite the victory Brayshaw said it was now in the rear-vision mirror as they look to keep their momentum rolling against the Tigers at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.
“Pretty much after the rounds done no one really worries about what happened before,” Brayshaw said.
“This weekend we’re going to go out and we haven’t earned any credits from beating Sydney to take on the Tigers.
“Obviously they (the media) are going to analyse the game and everyone who watched the game is going to see that we were able to get on top but I don’t think it gives us any credits, apart from four points which the competition is so even that it’s a huge four points.”
It has the Dockers as the talk of the town, but they will have to be wary of getting too far ahead of themselves.
Fremantle were in a similar position after their 92-point win over Melbourne in Alice Springs in round 12, before crashing back to two weeks later in a 67-point smashing at the hands of the Western Bulldogs.
“It’s about shifting our mindset really quickly. After the Melbourne game we had our bye, whereas now we’re rolling straight into another game,” Brayshaw said.
“The main thing is the preparation that we have throughout the week. We want to try to keep that as consistent as possible and our prep last week was really sharp.
“We had our minds set on Sydney pretty much straight after the Gold Coast game, so we’ve already shifted towards Richmond … our mental preparation is what we want to try and keep really consistent and hopefully it gives ourselves a chance for another win.”
