Undav rescues point for Stuttgart at home to Heidenheim

Germany forward Deniz Undav has scored in stoppage time to rescue a 3-3 draw for third-placed Stuttgart at home to Heidenheim in the Bundesliga, preserving the team’s seven-game unbeaten streak after a dramatic finale.

An own-goal from Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nubel and two quickfire goals from Tim Kleindienst had given the visitors a late 3-2 lead.

But Maximilian Mittelstadt sent a long ball forward for Undav to take with his back towards goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Undav, who last week made his international debut for Germany, eluded two defenders as he turned and scored in the far corner for Stuttgart’s equaliser.

“We’re not happy because we took over the game completely when we got the goal back,” Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt, who last season led the club to their first promotion, said.

“We believed in ourselves, turned the game around with unbelievable will and then conceded the equaliser in the 90th-plus-eight.”

Serhou Guirassy scored in the 41st minute to take his tally to 23 goals in 21 league appearances.

Angelo Stiller then gave Stuttgart an apparently comfortable 2-0 lead early in the second half.

The visitors turned the game upside down but had Nikola Dovedan sent off just before Undav preserved Stuttgart’s unbeaten run.

Augsburg drew with Cologne 1-1, leaving Cologne in relegation danger.

They are second from bottom and seven points from safety after Bochum and Darmstadt drew 2-2.

The result left 15th-placed Bochum – who squandered a two-goal advantage against their bottom-placed visitors – six points clear of the bottom three.
